3x3 joins the party at the National Championships in Ballarat

The inaugural tournament marks an important step in the national 3x3 pathway, bringing Australia’s top emerging Under-17 and Under-23 talent together.

The National Championships just got bigger with 3x3 officially joining in the party in Ballarat today alongside the Foot Locker Under-20 and Ivor Burge National Championships.

Making its debut, the 3x3 Championships will run across January 30–31 at Selkirk Stadium, bringing Australia’s top emerging Under-17 and Under-23 talent together.

The inaugural tournament marks an important step in the national 3x3 pathway, providing athletes with exposure to the international style of play and alignment with the FIBA 3x3 rankings system.

“The 3x3 Champs introduces a fresh, stand-alone event that complements the talent identification pathway for the Australian Gangurrus,” Basketball Australia 3x3 High Performance Manager Priyanka Karunakaran said.

“With strong global momentum behind the format and its popularity across Asia, this event represents an exciting boost for junior basketball, the Oceania region and the continued growth of 3x3 in Australia.”

The addition of 3x3 reinforces its growing role within Australia’s high-performance pathway.

“As we build towards the LA and Brisbane Olympic cycles, this national event will be a key driver in strengthening ranking points opportunities and elevating the pathway, with plans to expand the tournament and welcome Oceania teams in future editions,” Karunakaran said.
