Basketball officiating leaders from around the country have collaborated to launch a new national officiating pathway and curriculum content. The new approach provides clearer pathway progression, more educational content and enhanced support for program managers.
As Basketball Australia continues to invest in the quality and sustainability of the game through the Game Development Levy, a core focus is strengthening the experience, capability and retention of officials at every level.
“Officials play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, safety and fairness of the game at every level of basketball, and this new suite of courses represents a significant step forward for officiating in Australia. It ensures every official, no matter where they start, receives the same quality training and opportunity to progress,” said Calia Hanks, Community Officiating Manager.
“By aligning nationally, we are making progression through the pathway - from grassroots to representative and elite levels – a lot clearer. The tailored resources will support the development of all officials, as well as members who perform officiating duty for their team.”
“The pathway for our officials is built around the philosophy of the internationally recognised FTEM model, which ensures the needs of grassroots through to elite are met through our education system,” said Calia.
Today’s launch includes the release of new online courses for referees, referee coaches, scoretable officials and Technical Officials Program Managers. These will now sit alongside the Statistics online course to create a suite of nationally aligned curriculum content, accessible to all state & territory members.
By having a streamlined accreditation system delivered through etrainu, officials have access to theoretical training at a time that suits them, before then commencing practical learning on court when next available.
