We’re excited to announce that the City of Blacktown Basketball Association in NSW has been named the Ford Aussie Hoops Centre of the Month for August!
The City of Blacktown Basketball Association has done a fantastic job of creating a fun, welcoming and structured environment at Stanhope Gardens, where almost 100 children participate each week.
Since the program began in 2019, Aussie Hoops has expanded to multiple venues. Blacktown Program Development Coordinator Adam McIntyre couldn’t be prouder of its growth.
“One of my main focuses has been growing our Aussie Hoops programs and creating stronger pathways for our participants,” McIntyre said.
“One of the biggest areas of growth for us has been creating clearer pathways for participants.”
Blacktown’s coaching team gives participants the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence while building a strong connection to the game.
A standout feature is CBBA’s Train & Play model, which combines skill development with modified 3x3 games to bridge the gap between Aussie Hoops and junior competition. Strong connections with local schools and the broader community also create clear pathways for children to continue their basketball journey. McIntyre believes this is essential to keeping participants involved in basketball over the long term.
“We want kids to be able to progress from learning the basic skills, into modified games through our Train & Play program, and then into our local competitions and clubs,” McIntyre said.
“From there, we hope to see them continue developing into junior representative basketball and, eventually, have the opportunity to progress into our senior representative teams.”
Beyond introducing children to basketball, Aussie Hoops has delivered wider benefits for the Blacktown community. McIntyre has seen the positive impact on families and coaches first-hand.
“Aussie Hoops gives children and families an opportunity to experience basketball in a fun and welcoming environment without having to immediately commit to playing in a competition,” McIntyre said.
“We’ve also seen the program create opportunities beyond just player participation. We have young coaches developing through Aussie Hoops.”
“This gives our coaches their own development pathway while also helping us build a stronger coaching base across Blacktown.”
The City of Blacktown Basketball Association’s players and coaches are a perfect example of how the Aussie Hoops program helps participants make friends, stay active and take their first steps in basketball.
